PHYS 2260 – Optics. This course is delivered remotely. It uses a combined synchronous-asynchronous course design. The course will feature live online lectures which must be attended. Additionally, students will be required to participate in discussions held on UM Learn. The course also requires a laboratory component, which includes an online video laboratory session with the TA for each experiment, with additional work after the lab session in order to complete any unfinished experiments, as well as preparing the lab report. Your computer or device, and Internet connection must meet the UM minimum requirements found here https://centre.cc.umanitoba.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Student-Connectivity-Recommendations.pdf. These are required for all Fall 2020 classes. Students require a computer capable of running Zoom Meetings, a browser capable of accessing UM Learn, as well as browser-based online simulations. Access to document preparation software (e.g. Microsoft Word or equivalent) and spreadsheet/plotting software is required. PHYS 2260 has a laboratory component that will be online for Fall 2020. Students will complete experiments at home using a kit of optical equipment available from the UM Bookstore in conjunction with some common household items (e.g. containers of water). A full laboratory report will be handed in via UM Learn. Other evaluations including assignments and tests will be handled via UM Learn.
