Levels: Graduate, Undergraduate Main (Fort Garry & Bannatyne) Campus Education Course Schedule Type Learning Objectives: EDUB 5220 T18 Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) Stories for the Early Years is rooted in Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) worldview and perspectives. During this course and balanced alongside theory and discourse, students will be introduced to a variety of Indigenous stories for use in the K-3 classroom. Through analysis and meaningful meaning-making, students will examine texts for understandings of Indigenous content, contexts, and themes. Students will also demonstrate capacity for synthesizing and evaluating Indigenous picture books for use in the K-3 classroom. Lastly, through guided scaffolding, students will construct, create and design materials intended to highlight their developed/ing understandings throughout the course and which will be shared amongst peers in a course resource collection. Although geared towards the Early Years, Middle Years students are welcome to participate as learnings of/about the course texts can extend beyond the K-3 classroom.
