Learning Objectives:
This Summer Institute will focus on critically analyzing and comparing Canadian and international educational organizations and their approaches regarding diversity and equity. We will be looking at trans-national educational organizations such as UNESCO, World Bank, OECD and their influence on promoting equity. We will be analyzing practices of various educational organizations located in the European Union, Asia, South America, Africa and North America to understand the various models that promote social diversity and equity. Finally, we will be examining the impact and influence of community-based organizations and individual actors (e.g. politicians, influential thinkers, educational leaders) in their responses for diversity and equity, policy and practice. We are critically examining the following questions: How are norms and values created? What purpose and whose agenda do they serve? How do those developments influence school administration and practice? We will draw on community and academic experts as guest lecturers and workshop facilitators to inform the broad scope of the course.
