Analysis of institutional power and its changing nature in diverse societies, with attention to charismatic power and populism, ideology and hegemonic struggles, governmentality and structural violence within larger colonial, capitalist and socialist orders. Forms of challenge to these orders, including social movements, are examined. Prerequisite: [ANTH 1220 or ANTH 1221 or ANTH 1520] or written consent of instructor.
